Brown, Lawmakers Push Protective Pet Cremation LegislationIn Harrisburg this week, I joined my fellow colleagues Senator Camera Bartolotta, Senator Nick Pisciottano and Senator Lisa Boscola to speak on Senate Bill 950 and the importance of protecting our pets. The legislation, Senate Bill 950, would establish standards, increase oversight, and ensure transparency in the pet cremation industry, providing critical protections for families during times of loss. This bill aims to address an urgent need to establish regulatory oversight for third-party providers in the pet cremation industry. This legislation works to protect the welfare of animals, support pet owners, and maintain public trust. Pets are part of our families, and they deserve to be treated with dignity, both in life and after they pass. The mishandling of pet remains is unacceptable, and it is time we establish clear standards so families can have confidence in the services they rely on. I appreciate the strong bipartisan support for this effort and look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues, stakeholders, and Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Sunday to move this important issue forward! As Co-Chair of the Animal Protection Caucus, this bill is near and dear to my heart, hopefully providing protection to our loving pets for their final days. I look forward to this important legislation continuing on the path to be signed into law. Brown Serves as Keynote Speaker at Keystone Family Alliance EventLast week, I had the pleasure to serve as the keynote speaker for Keystone Family Alliance at their dinner event, promoting the need for supporting our foster care system from all levels within our community. In Lackawanna County, there are currently 294 foster children (all who are placed) but there are only 34 foster homes currently in Lackawanna County Home and family is the very foundation for our children to feel loved and confident as they learn and grow. Keystone Family Alliance is working with many churches and building those alliances to support foster children and families in any way possible! Please consider any way you may help our foster families! Carlene Gula is the County Coordinator and can be reached at carlene@keyfam.org Brown Joins Anti-Human Trafficking CaucusThis week, I was proud to join both Senate and House members for a press conference announcing the newly creating Pennsylvania Anti-Human Trafficking Caucus. This bipartisan and bicameral effort will aim to ensure Pennsylvania is protecting victims, as well as holding traffickers accountable. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues from both sides in Harrisburg on this caucus for the betterment of our Commonwealth. If you would like to watch the full press conference and launch of the caucus, you can do so here. Celebrating the 25th Annual Society of Irish Women DinnerI had a truly wonderful St. Patrick’s Day evening with The Society of Irish Women as they celebrated their 25th Annual Dinner in Lackawanna County filled with love and laughs. Judy Price (MC), Sister Ruth Neely (prayers and amazing singing), the passing of the Gavel and presidency from Katie Schneider to Tammy Jackson, the honoring of Carol Caviston for her strength and work with “Lexi -Strong” (through her daughter’s illness), and a fun-filled guest speech from Evie Rafalko McNulty (founding member) created a most heartwarming, entertaining and celebratory event. An amazing group of women inspiring greatness together! Scenes from the 40th Senate DistrictThis week’s photos are courtesy of the wonderful Susan from Stroudsburg, with more wildlife action!
