Brown, PennDOT Announce SR247/SR48 Safety UpdatesIf you live or drive on SR247 and SR348 in Jefferson Township, you know of the safety concerns of restricted trucks traveling on this road. Please know that I have been working diligently with the amazing assistance of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 4-0 Executive Jonathan Eboli, our PA State Police and township officials to enforce against restricted trucks and create preventative solutions to avoid trucks from entering. This includes:
Thank you again to my PennDOT partners for your continued strong assistance of my safety requests! First Batch of 2026 Money Match Unclaimed Property Checks Being Mailed
My office has started to receive inquiries from constituents about checks from the Pennsylvania Department of Treasury being directly mailed to them. This is the beginning of Treasury’s new program Money Match! More than 100,000 checks, totaling nearly $23 million, are being mailed to Pennsylvania residents under the state Treasury’s 2026 Money Match program for unclaimed property. Created by the General Assembly in 2024, Pennsylvania Money Match allows Treasury to return unclaimed property valued at up to $500 belonging to a single owner automatically without the need to search or file a claim. Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, abandoned stocks, uncashed checks and more. Treasurer Stacy Garrity urges Pennsylvanians to regularly search online for unclaimed property, since some claims may not qualify to be part of Money Match. The Pennsylvania Game Commission livestream of a bald eagle nest in Codorus State Park in York County offers viewers an incredible look at a pair of eagles and their three eggs. The nest has never seen three eggs in one season since the webcam first started in January 2015. The eggs were laid in early March and typically take around 35 days to hatch, so viewers could see eaglets emerging in the coming days. Forty years ago, Pennsylvania had only three bald eagle nests left in the entire state before the birds were brought back. We’re now home to more than 300 nests. The livestream is run through a Game Commission partnership with Comcast Business, HDOnTap and local property owners. Honoring the West End and Marshalls Creek Fire CompaniesSaturday night, I had the privilege of honoring the selfless dedication of both the West End Volunteer Fire Company Station 43 and the Marshalls Creek Fire Company. I began at Trout Lake, where we celebrated and expressed our deepest gratitude to the remarkable volunteers from the West End. You can view the impressive list of 20-year life members in the picture below. Thank you! I then visited The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort to recognize our additional volunteer firefighters and their families from Marshalls Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Special recognition was given to Steven Lebar for 20 years, Patrick Norman for 30 years, and Eugene Berry for 40 years of extraordinary service to our communities! Thank you to these courageous, compassionate, and exceptional volunteer firefighters and their families. When emergencies arise, they answer the call to keep our communities safe! Previous Middle Smithfield Supervisor, Mike Dwyer, was also recognized for his many years while in office of supporting Marshall’s Creek firefighters NEPA Girls STEAM CompetitionI had the privilege of attending the NEIU19 NEPA Girls STEAM competition at Kalahari, celebrating its 10th anniversary with over 400 talented girls from 4th to 8th grade. I was pleased to meet up with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary of Transportation, Mike Carroll, at this empowering event as well. Marisa Barilka, an extraordinary teacher from Valley View Cougars, The United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike, and numerous volunteers lead this remarkable initiative. Truly a phenomenal, high-energy, educational and inspiring experience for young women! Our future leaders and innovators I’m sure will rise from this incredible platform. Had some fun, a few laughs and a selfie with a group of these amazing young girls too! Happy Easter!
Easter is a day to celebrate renewal and new beginnings! I wish you a joyful and peaceful Easter filled with warmth, happiness, and time with loved ones. I hope the Easter Bunny treats you all well!
