A Renewed Call for AED Access and Cardiac Emergency Preparedness

The West Scranton community is mourning the loss of Coach Tommy Selemba, a beloved mentor and leader in youth sports. While I didn’t have the privilege of knowing him personally, his impact was deeply felt. His passing, like that of 15-year-old Greg Moyer decades ago, is a heartbreaking reminder of how important it is to be prepared for sudden cardiac emergencies.

In my latest op-ed, I share why I’ve introduced Greg Moyer’s Law; legislation to ensure AEDs are present at all interscholastic athletic events and that every school has a clear emergency response plan in place.

I invite you to read the full op-ed and learn how you can help move this life-saving legislation forward. Click here.

Statement on the Arson Attack at the Governor’s Residence

I was deeply troubled to learn that the Governor’s Residence was the target of an act of arson last weekend. This is a disturbing incident, and my thoughts are with Governor Shapiro, the First Lady, and their children during this upsetting time.

This attack is particularly alarming as it occurred on the first night of Passover; a sacred time marked by reflection, resilience, and hope. In moments like these, we are reminded of the importance of unity and the strength of our shared values.

I am grateful that the Governor and his family are safe, and I have full confidence in our law enforcement agencies as they investigate this serious crime.

Acknowledging Passover and Holy Week

This week marks a special moment for many across our community, as Passover and Holy Week align, a meaningful convergence of two traditions.

For our Jewish neighbors, Passover commemorates the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in Egypt, a story that speaks to the values of freedom, perseverance, and faith. For Christians, Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and honors Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem—a journey that leads to the crucifixion and ultimately the celebration of resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Though rooted in different traditions, both observances offer a reflection on renewal and hope.

To all who are observing Holy Week or celebrating Passover, I extend my warmest wishes for a joyful and meaningful season. May this time bring you peace and strength!

Stroudsburg Little League Celebrates 75 Years of Community and Tradition

This year marks 75 years of Stroudsburg Little League — a proud tradition that began in 1950 and has brought generations of young athletes, coaches, and families together through the love of the game.

More than just baseball, SLL has been a place where kids learn teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Thank you to the volunteers, sponsors, and families who’ve kept this tradition going strong.

Here’s to 75 years of memories — and many more to come!

Connecting with Students and Leaders at NCC Pocono Campus

Today, I had the pleasure of attending the Spring Legislative Luncheon at Northampton Community College’s Pocono Campus. It was a great opportunity to hear directly from President Dr. Ruth and several impressive students about their educational experiences and goals.

NCC continues to be a cornerstone of our region — advancing academic excellence and workforce development that strengthens our community and economy. We’re fortunate to have such a vital institution helping to shape the future of Monroe County and beyond.
