Paul Miller’s Law Now in Effect in Pennsylvania

After more than a decade of advocacy, Paul Miller’s Law is now officially in effect in Pennsylvania—marking a major step forward in improving roadway safety across the Commonwealth.

This law, named in honor of Paul Miller, is the result of a 12-year effort to address distracted driving and help save lives. Paul’s mother, Eileen Miller, has been a tireless advocate since losing her son in a preventable crash caused by a distracted driver. Her strength and persistence, along with the support of safety partners and fellow advocates, brought this effort across the finish line.

In my op-ed, I share Paul’s story, the legislative process, and how this law will impact drivers moving forward. The new law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving; placing safety at the center of our daily travel decisions and helping to reduce distracted driving incidents statewide.

Paul Miller’s legacy now lives on in the form of safer roads for everyone. Read my op-ed here.

Brown’s Resolution to Support Families Facing Birth-Related Neurological Injuries Enacted

I’m proud to share that the Senate has passed my resolution, Senate Resolution 27, which takes an important step toward supporting Pennsylvania families affected by birth-related neurological injuries.

This resolution directs the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to study the feasibility of establishing a no-fault catastrophic loss fund. This type of fund could help ease the overwhelming financial burden families often face when caring for a child with severe neurological injuries sustained at birth.

This study will examine the potential costs, benefits, and implementation strategies of such a fund. The goal is to guide future legislative action and, ultimately, to deliver faster, fairer assistance without forcing families into lengthy and expensive legal battles.

Now that the resolution has passed, the committee will begin its work. Watch my remarks in the video above.

National CPR and AED Awareness Week

This week marks National CPR and AED Awareness Week, a timely reminder of how life-saving skills like CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can mean the difference between life and death in an emergency.

As someone who has long championed increased AED access, I continue to advocate for stronger safety measures in our schools and athletic programs. My legislation, Senate Bill 375, would require that AEDs be present at all school-sponsored events, including athletic practices and games. This legislation is in memory of Greg Moyer, a young athlete who tragically died from sudden cardiac arrest during a basketball game in 2000. There was no AED on-site.

I invite you to learn more, get trained in CPR, and join me in supporting Senate Bill 375 to ensure our schools are equipped and ready to respond in an emergency.

Honoring D-Day: A Legacy of Courage and Sacrifice

Today, we pause to remember June 6, 1944—D-Day, one of the most pivotal and courageous moments in our nation’s history. On this day, thousands of brave Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, launching the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation and changing the course of World War II.

Their extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and determination helped secure the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy today. The legacy of those who served and gave their lives on D-Day lives on in the peace, liberty, and democratic values they fought to protect.

Let us honor their memory not just with words, but with our commitment to uphold the principles they defended.
