Brown Announces Data Center Education Policy HearingRecently, conversations around data center development have become more frequent. The topic is appearing in local headlines, at community meetings, and in communications to me raised by residents across our district. As this complex issue continues to evolve, so does the need for clear, reliable information and meaningful public dialogue. That’s why I have requested the Senate Policy Committee to hold a public hearing in our district, focused specifically on data centers in Pennsylvania. The hearing will take place on Monday, August 11th from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Valley View High School Auditorium in Archbald. Our goal is to help local governments, residents and state government better understand data centers, their operations and what role the state plays in their development. As this issue continues to spark strong opinions, it’s more important than ever that we know the facts. I welcome residents to submit feedback or questions they would like addressed by the panels at least five (5) days PRIOR to the hearing. This is your opportunity to help shape the discussion and ensure your voice is part of the conversation and your questions may be answered. Submissions can be sent HERE. I hope you will join us on August 11th. Brown Hosting Peeling Plate RallyReminder that I am hosting a FREE License Plate replacement event at 1199 Texas Palmyra Highway in Honesdale for those who have a damaged plate next week on August 9th from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. Thank you to Northeast Title & Tag for partnering for this great free event to keep our drivers safe. Damaged plates have loss of reflectivity, peeling, blistering, or discoloration, and are unreadable from 50 feet away. Stop by this event to have your license plate checked. We can help determine if the plate needs replacement and aid with appropriate paperwork. There is no fee for this service. Once submitted to PennDOT, the new replacement plate will arrive by mail to your home address! Scenes from the 40th DistrictThis week’s photo winner comes courtesy of Luis, who took this great photo capturing the wildlife that the 40th District has to offer. Luis’ photo has been shared on my social media and posted to the 40th Senatorial District Photo Gallery. Interested in showcasing your photography skills? I am inviting residents of the 40th Senatorial District to share their photography and help capture the beauty and character of our community. Whether it’s a stunning landscape, a lively community event, or a cherished historical landmark, I encourage you to submit photos that highlight the unique aspects of our district, which includes parts of Lackawanna and Wayne counties, and all of Monroe County. Senate Acts to Provide Funding for Local Bridge ProjectsThe Senate recently approved legislation to provide state funding for local bridge projects, giving counties the flexibility needed to make essential repairs to municipal bridges. Currently, state Motor License Fund dollars can be used to build and repair county bridges. However, spending guidance fails to address if funding can be used for municipal bridges located within a county. As a result, municipal bridges often go without repair while bridge funding goes unused due to ambiguous guidance. Senate Bill 205 would give counties the flexibility they need to fund local bridge projects. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Sunday Hunting Days Set for 2025The new Sunday hunting days for 2025 have been set by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Beginning Sept. 14, and through the second Sunday in firearms deer season Dec. 7, all Sundays that fall within established hunting seasons will be included as part of those seasons and open to hunting. Migratory game bird seasons are the lone exception. No Sundays will be added to the 2025-26 migratory game bird seasons because those seasons are set through federal frameworks and adding any Sundays at this time would result in a loss of hunting days in 2025-26. You can find more details here. Meet our Intern Rese!Earlier this week was National Intern Day, so please allow me to highlight our wonderful intern for this summer. It has been an absolute pleasure to have Rese Schlameuss as an intern on my staff! As a current Political Science and History double major at the University of Vermont, Rese has been a great addition to our team. I’m thrilled to have her on board with us for the rest of the summer to work hard for constituents! Welcome, Rese! Blakely National Night OutDespite the extreme heat, the Blakely Borough Recreation Complex was packed earlier this week with incredible community support for Blakely Police Department’s annual Night Out event. This was a great opportunity for everyone who braved the high temps to come out, meet their local first responders, enjoy some food, music, and fun, and help strengthen the partnership between the Blakely Police Department and the community they proudly serve. A very special thank you to Mayor of Blakely Jeanette Mariani and Chief of Police Guy Salerno and their teams who organize this event yearly to meet the community, build education, community policing and more. Welcoming the Cornerstone Community InitiativeI had the pleasure of meeting with Leslie Perryman, Executive Director of the Cornerstone Community Initiative. Cornerstone is a brand-new nonprofit here in Monroe County, focusing on wraparound reentry services and transitional housing for those being released from the county correctional facility without a home plan. While they are not yet operational, the organization will be focusing on providing services such as mentorship, peer/recovery support, case management, education/vocation training and employment, along with supportive Housing to help people get back on their feet and be successful in the community. They aim to reduce homelessness and recidivism in Monroe County through these efforts.
