Brown to Host Public Hearing on Data Centers in the Commonwealth

In response to increasing interest and questions from residents about data center development in our region, I’ve invited the Senate Majority Policy Committee to host a public hearing in our district. As this complex issue continues to evolve, so does the need for clear, reliable information and meaningful public dialogue.

The hearing will be held on Monday, August 11, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Valley View High School Auditorium, 1 Columbus Drive, Archbald.

Our goal is to help local governments, residents and state government better understand data centers, their operations and what role the state plays in their development. As this issue continues to spark strong opinions, it’s more important than ever that we know the facts.

I also want to thank the many residents across our district who have submitted thoughtful, productive questions in advance of the hearing. Your input is critical to this process and ensures we’re focusing on the issues that matter most to our communities.

A broad panel of industry experts, government officials, utility representatives, and regional stakeholders will share their perspectives during the hearing. You can view the full list of confirmed participants and find details about how to stream the event live here.

Local Construction Update

The summer is the busiest time of the year for road construction across the Commonwealth, so I wanted to give you all an update on some of the local construction currently underway throughout the 40th District.

  • SR 690 (Church Street) in Moscow between Garnder Road and Sunrise Boulevard has been closed for bridge construction since early July. Construction has been going as planned and is on-track to reopen on time. The estimated reopening date is Wednesday August 20th, with the potential to reopen earlier than the projected date.
  • The resurfacing project for Main Street that runs through both boroughs of Blakely and Archbald is set to be underway, following the completion of a paving project of Montage Mountain Road in Moosic. This project will involve paving from the Keystone Avenue intersection in Blakely to the Kennedy Drive intersection in Archbald, along with the replacement of a failing retaining wall near Hill Street.
  • Construction on Golden Slipper Road began near the end of June, with the result of a full closure of the route. I have recently spoken with the contractors of this project and are happy to report that the project is beyond their halfway point, with hopes to reopen the road within the next month.

Senate Acts to Ensure More Efficient Government Spending

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission would be able to spend funds more efficiently under legislation passed by the Senate. The aim is to keep costs as low as possible for anglers and boaters.

Currently, commission revenues are directed into either the Fish Fund or the Boat Fund, with no crossover permitted. This rigidity has led to inefficiencies and higher costs.

Senate Bill 800 permits Fish Fund dollars to be used for expenditures and programs that benefit boaters and Boat Fund dollars to be used for expenditures and programs that benefit anglers, as long as they also benefit the original intent of the respective funds. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Planning a PA Capitol Visit

Your Pennsylvania Capitol is not only the seat of state government, but also an architectural and artistic treasure to be experienced by citizens from across the commonwealth.

Visitors are welcome to explore the building at their leisure on regular weekdays. You can also schedule a tour with a guide. Tours take about 30 to 45 minutes.

You can plan a visit and book a tour of this 119-year-old National Historic Landmark here.

Blue Mass at Christ the King St. Thomas Aquinas Church

A beautiful Sunday morning last week with my husband in Archbald as they held their Blue Mass at Christ the King St. Thomas Aquinas Church Rev. Ryan Glenn bestowed blessings upon any fire, EMS, and police vehicles from Archbald, Eynon, Jermyn, Mayfield & Jessup present before the mass. The emergency responders were honored, thanked and prayers were offered for them during mass.

A special recognition plaque was also given to Richard Ercole for his incredible 70 years of dedication to fire services during mass!

Thank you once again to the many who selflessly give of their lives to protect others in emergency services, as well as thank you to Christ the King Parish and volunteers also for a delicious reception after too!
