No Construction on Route 80 This Labor Day Weekend! While we are always thankful for road improvements, I do not support the construction on Route 80 during peak weekend travel. I want you to be aware I requested the construction halt for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Therefore, you will not see construction this weekend. Additionally, moving forward, the work will be conducted at night between 9 PM and 5 AM during the weekends. The construction includes milling, asphalt overlay, concrete patching, marking upgrades, guiderail upgrades, and bridge preservation work. The majority of this project will be completed by October 2024. Farmers Market Opens Sept 7th!I’m excited to announce that the Farmers Market is returning on Saturday, September 7th in partnership with Pocono Organics! This is a wonderful opportunity to support our local farmers and enjoy the freshest produce right from our community. Whether you’re looking to stock up on healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables or simply want to connect with friends and neighbors, the market has something for everyone. If you’re interested in becoming a vendor, please reach out to Tractor Supply at 272-271-3020. I hope to see you there as we celebrate and support our local agriculture! Financial Assistance is Available to Struggling VeteransVeterans who are experiencing unforeseen circumstances causing a financial burden can benefit from the Veterans Temporary Assistance (VTA) Program. The VTA provides temporary financial assistance of up to $1,600 in a 12-month period to veterans or their surviving spouses who reside in Pennsylvania for basic necessities like food, shelter, fuel and clothing. Eligibility guidelines are available here. Veterans interested in applying for a VTA grant should contact their county director of Veterans Affairs. A Closer Look at Efforts to Improve Water QualityThe Senate has led efforts in Pennsylvania to ensure access to clean water now, and to preserve this critical resource for future generations. Supporting clean water in Pennsylvania communities benefits our downstream neighbors as well. This year’s state budget includes $50 million in recurring funding for the Clean Streams Fund, which helps farmers reduce sediment in waterways through the Agricultural Conservation Assistance Program. To date, the program has supported more than 700 projects to reduce sediment in waterways throughout the state. Because of the initiative, water quality has improved in Pennsylvania and downstream. In fact, the Chesapeake Bay recently earned its best rating in more than 20 years from the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Science Chesapeake Bay Report Card. See how else we are working to make Pennsylvania a great place to live and work here.
