A Special Thank You to All Veterans
We set aside Veterans Day to acknowledge and celebrate our fellow citizens who answered the call to serve in the military, securing and defending freedom we enjoy year-round. We owe a debt of gratitude to veterans locally and across this great nation. To all veterans, past and present, thank you for your service, your strength, and your steadfast commitment to protecting our great nation. We are forever grateful. One way we show our appreciation is through the Veterans Trust Fund, which supports organizations that assist Pennsylvania veterans and their families in need of housing, financial help, food, training, recovery and more. Find out how you can donate to this fund here. Watch Brown’s November Legislative ReportMy November Legislative Report is out now! Watch my discussion with Jerry Birmelin, Development Director of the PennGift Foundation, as well as Barbara Kuniegel, Development Director at St. Dominic’s Academy regarding the Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC). The EITC Program is aimed at providing financial support to working individuals and families, particularly those with children. It helps to reduce the amount of taxes owed and can result in a refund even if no taxes are owed. The credit is based on several factors, including earned income, the number of qualifying children, and filing status. Brown’s Bill to Expand Access to Midwife Maternal Care
The Midwifery Modernization Act is a critical step toward strengthening maternal health care in Pennsylvania. It updates the Medical Practice Act of 1985 by modernizing licensure requirements for certified midwives, improving collaboration between midwives and physicians, and updating prescription authority – particularly when it comes to treating substance use disorders. This proposal will improve health outcomes for mothers and babies, expand the number of qualified providers, and give women across the commonwealth more options for safe, high-quality care – especially in rural and underserved areas. Licensed midwives play a vital role in the continuum of care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. Many also offer routine reproductive health services like prenatal care, screenings, and patient education. I’m grateful for the strong bipartisan support this bill received in the Senate and for the more than 30 stakeholder organizations that have backed it – including the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Association of Physician Associates in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Senate Bill 507 now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration. You can watch my full floor remarks during its passage here. Scenes from the 40th District

Legislation requiring school districts to notify parents and school employees of any incidents involving possession of weapons on school property is set to become law. Under current law, school districts are not required to inform parents or guardians about incidents when a weapon is brought onto school grounds or to related activities. The changes in Senate Bill 246 apply to public, nonpublic and private schools. The bill, which first passed the Senate in May, received strong bipartisan support from the General Assembly and now awaits the governor’s signature. Watch Out for Increased Deer Activity on Roads
The number of deer-related crashes in Pennsylvania has been on the rise since 2020, with last year’s total of 6,426 setting a five-year high, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Autumn means increased deer activity on roads. Deer become more active at dawn and dusk, and if you see one, there are usually more. PennDOT advises motorists involved in a deer-related crash to assess the situation to determine whether they need to contact local authorities. Pennsylvanians can report a dead deer for removal from state-maintained roads by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD or submitting feedback through the PennDOT Customer Care Center. Opening of New Resource Management Center at Delaware State ForestEarlier this week, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources celebrated the opening of the new Resource Management Center in the Delaware State Forest. Spanning over 80,000 acres across four counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the Delaware State Forest preserves our natural beauty, supports outdoor recreation, and protects vital habitats. Thank you to Secretary Dunn, the DCNR team, and Delaware Forest District Manager Tim Dugan for your leadership. This new facility reflects a continued investment in sustainable forest management.
