Reflecting on a Highly Productive Legislative Session

As the 2023-24 legislative session comes to a close, I am proud to reflect on what we have accomplished. Out of the 155 new laws passed by the Pennsylvania legislature this session, I was pleased to author six of them.

This session was defined by partnership and productivity. Every bill I introduced and enacted was driven by our district’s values, a spirit of bipartisan cooperation, and a commitment to delivering practical, effective solutions that Pennsylvanians can rely on.

The six laws include:

  • Act No. 18 of 2024 (Senate Bill 37): Amended Title 75 to prohibit the use of interactive mobile devices while driving, a critical step toward improving road safety. This law was enacted on June 5, 2024.
  • Act No. 111 of 2024 (Senate Bill 840): Established the Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Related Disorders Office and its advisory committee—an initiative aimed at better supporting individuals and families affected by these challenging conditions. This was enacted on October 16, 2024.
  • Acts No. 139, 140, and 141 of 2024 (Senate Bills 1132, 1133, and 1134): These three laws amended the First-Class Township Code, Second Class Township Code, and Borough and Incorporated Towns Code, respectively, giving our local governments, emergency medical service providers, and fire companies greater flexibility to meet community needs. These were enacted on October 31, 2024.
  • Act No. 14 of 2024 (Senate Bill 945): Incorporated the County Code (Act 154 of 2018) into Title 16 (Counties) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes. This was enacted on May 8, 2024.

These initiatives are a testament to what bipartisan, thoughtful leadership can achieve. Whether it’s strengthening our public safety laws, empowering our local governments, or addressing the needs of our aging population, these new laws were crafted to serve our communities today and into the future. I’m grateful for the collaboration of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and for the valuable input from our community that helped shape these initiatives.

Remembering the Attack on Pearl Harbor

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii led to the United States declaring war on Japan and ultimately winning World War II. Sadly, the attack cost the lives of thousands of service members and civilians. Even more were injured. It also sank two U.S. Navy battleships and destroyed 188 aircraft.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor survivors, veterans and others will honor and remember the people who gave their lives during the attack. The atrocities of war remind us of the incredible value of the American rights we hold dear.

Visit our State Capitol

The Pennsylvania State Capitol is especially magical this time of year, and the beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the Rotunda truly captures the spirit of the season. If you’ve never visited our Capitol, you’re in for a treat—it’s a stunning piece of architecture and a testament to our state’s rich history. Interested in seeing it for yourself?
