Brown Named Majority Chairwoman of the Community, Economic, and Recreational Development CommitteeI’m excited to share that I have been appointed as the majority chairwoman of the Senate Community, Economic, and Recreational Development Committee (CERD). This committee plays a vital role in strengthening Pennsylvania’s economy and improving the quality of life for everyone across the state. Working closely with the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the CERD Committee oversees major state programs like grants and loans that drive business growth, foster innovation, and support community development. Supporting Pennsylvania’s economic growth and well-being is a responsibility I take very seriously. This committee is central to creating jobs, uncovering opportunities, and keeping our state competitive. As chairwoman, I will also oversee several key state authorities, including:
With my years of legislative experience and a deep commitment to serving our communities, I am ready to lead efforts that help businesses grow, strengthen local economies, and ensure state resources are invested wisely. The work of this committee truly affects every corner of our state, from helping small businesses thrive to ensuring communities have access to recreational and economic resources. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues and stakeholders to make meaningful progress for Pennsylvania. Thank you for your continued support as we work together for the betterment of our commonwealth. Avian Influenza Efforts in PennsylvaniaI have been working closely with statewide and local leaders as concerns of Avian Influenza increase in our region. The Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture—is actively working to address avian influenza (AI) in our state. As reports of sick and dead birds are received, the Game Commission is prioritizing responses based on the number of wild birds affected. Trained teams are on the ground removing accessible dead birds and humanely euthanizing those that are sick, as recovery from AI is highly unlikely. To prevent further risks to humans and wildlife, the carcasses are disposed of following strict biosecurity protocols. As geese and other migratory birds move throughout the tristate area, the agency is also conducting testing on species most susceptible to AI in new areas, helping to monitor the spread of the outbreak. Pennsylvanians can assist by reporting sick or dead wild birds to the Game Commission. Reports can be made by calling 1-833-PGC-WILD, emailing pgc-wildlifehealth@pa.gov, or submitting information online here. The Game Commission is urging the public to follow these guidelines to minimize risks:
Addressing avian influenza is a collaborative effort, and I encourage everyone to stay informed and follow these safety measures. Click here for more information.
