Policy Committee Holds Hearing on Data Centers in the 40th DistrictThis week, I was pleased to welcome the Senate Majority Policy Committee and Chairman Senator David Argall to the 40th District, along with Senator Lisa Baker and many other Senators who joined remotely, including Senators Lynda Culver, Judy Ward, Dawn Keefer, Doug Mastriano, and Kristin Phillips-Hill. Over the past several weeks, I have heard from many residents who felt they lacked clear, reliable information about data centers and their potential risks and benefits to our community. This hearing was an important step toward addressing those questions directly. The event featured four topic-specific panels and nearly 20 expert testifiers, who provided valuable insight and answered questions from Senators representing districts across the Commonwealth. We were joined by numerous local elected officials and more than 200 engaged residents. I requested this hearing to ensure that factual, accessible information is available to everyone in our district. For those who could not attend in person, the hearing was recorded, and all written testimony is available on the Senate Majority Policy Committee’s website. While I have already received valuable public feedback leading up to the hearing, the submission portal will remain open. I encourage residents to continue sharing their perspectives and questions on this important issue. Senate Advances Responsible Spending Plan to Fund Critical NeedsCounties, school districts, hospitals and others would receive critical funding from the commonwealth immediately under a bill approved by the Senate. As budget negotiations and policy discussions continue on a 2025-26 state budget, the Senate took action last night and approved a reasonable bill to provide immediate funding to counties, school districts, hospitals and others to ensure operations continue. If the House approves the legislation, the state can start disbursing $47.6 billion without the need for any new taxes. This plan takes a sensible approach while budget negotiations are still ongoing. It ensures vital funding flows to the people and organizations who need it most – from our schools to our hospitals – without burdening taxpayers. Passage of SB 160 marks an important step forward in this year’s budget process, putting people above politics as budget discussions continue. Many of the line items in the budget are not in dispute, so this is a responsible way to ensure that counties, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, social service providers and other entities receive immediate funding to meet their fiscal needs. Welcome Home to Troopers Perechisnky and JenkinsLast week, in a horrific act of violence, two Pennsylvania State Troopers were shot in the line of duty in Susquehanna County. This disturbing incident serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face each and every day. By the grace of God, Troopers William Jenkins and Joseph Perechinsky are now on the road to recovery after being discharged from the hospital earlier this week. Their strength, resilience, and courage speak volumes about the caliber of those who serve and protect our communities. To Trooper Jenkins and Trooper Perechinsky – your bravery, sacrifice, and willingness to run toward danger in moments of crisis make you heroes in every sense of the word.
