Route 611 is Open to Traffic!
I’m pleased to announce that Route 611 from Delaware Water Gap to Portland is now open to traffic, thanks to the hard work and collaboration of local, state, and federal partners. After nearly two years, Route 611 has reopened the roadway in a single-lane configuration controlled by traffic signals, bringing much-needed relief to our region. It’s been a long journey to get here, and I’m grateful for our residents and businesses for their patience throughout this process. This collaborative effort has made it possible for us to reopen Route 611 and begin restoring normalcy to daily commutes and local business operations. For the time being, Route 611 will operate in a single lane, and drivers should proceed only when the signal is green. Vehicles over 8 feet wide remain prohibited from traveling this stretch between the Portland-Columbia Toll Bridge in Northampton County and Broad Street in Delaware Water Gap Borough. I want to thank PennDOT’s contractor for their efficient work in making the roadway safe and accessible. Their work included roadway grading, realignment, concrete slab construction, and installing necessary safety barriers and fencing. Looking ahead, Route 611 will fully reopen to two lanes once there is a permanent stabilization solution in place, though we don’t yet have a timeline for that completion. To honor the incredible service and sacrifices of our veterans and their families, I’m hosting my annual Veterans Luncheon on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Trout Lake Retreats. This event is an opportunity for us to come together, recognize our local veterans, and express our deep gratitude for all they’ve done to protect our freedoms. I’m genuinely looking forward to meeting with veterans and their spouses at this special gathering. Your courage, dedication, and commitment to our country are the foundations upon which our community and nation stand. Click here to submit your work and learn more. New Law Makes Workers’ Comp More Efficient
The Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation system will be more efficient because of legislation passed by the Senate. Act 126 of 2024 moves more benefit payments from paper checks to direct deposit. Individuals entitled to compensation may request funds be deposited into an account of their choosing. The law also allows insurers to no longer have to offer paper checks as a payment as long as the individual has a bank account that accepts direct deposit. The reforms, which are also more cost-effective, were unanimously recommended by the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council. Shooting Ranges Open to the Public
Whether you’re a hunter preparing for rifle season or would simply like to maintain your shooting skills for self-defense, you can take aim at a public shooting range. The Pennsylvania Game Commission offers recreation opportunities at public rifle, pistol, archery and shotgun ranges on 40 state game lands throughout the state. It constructed or renovated more than a dozen public shooting ranges this year alone, with plans to upgrade more. You must possess an annual shooting range permit or a current general hunting or furtaker license to use the public shooting ranges. Find a shooting range near you. Kicking Off the Holiday Season with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign
This week, I had the joy of attending the East Stroudsburg Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Breakfast at Stroudsmoor, where they raised over $60,000 to launch the holiday season of giving! This breakfast marks the start of a cherished tradition in our community—coming together to help our neighbors in need. Ringing the bell is a simple yet meaningful way to contribute, and it’s a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer in our community. Honoring our Veterans and Supporting Toys for Tots
This past weekend, I had the privilege of walking alongside our Marines in the Veterans Day Parade, where we promoted their impactful Toys for Tots program. Led by the inspiring “Toy Man” John Dickson—who has dedicated over 20 years to the Monroe County Toys for Tots—this program brings joy to countless children each holiday season. I am deeply grateful to the Marines for inviting me to join them again this year. Their dedication to both our nation and our community is truly remarkable, and I thank them wholeheartedly for all they do.
