Happy Mother’s Day!

Sen. Brown posing for a picture with her mother, Marlene, for Mother’s Day.

Wishing all mothers and those who are a mother figure to others a beautiful day, reminding you of how important your love, guidance, patience, and responsibility are to all those around you. A special thank you to my wonderful mother who is just amazing, and I admire every piece of her love, kindness, compassion, and guidance!

To all the mothers in our community – never be too hard on yourself as a mother and never underestimate simple love, honesty and speaking to your children.

Brown’s Lifesaving AED Legislation Heads to Governor’s Desk

I am proud to announce the final passage of Senate Bill 375, Greg Moyer’s Law, which now heads to the Governor’s desk. This comes after over a decade of advocacy alongside the Moyer family, who tragically lost their 15-year-old son, Greg, to sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game. This legislation requires AEDs to be present at all PIAA-sanctioned athletic events and practices and ensures schools have emergency action plans in place for sudden cardiac arrest situations.

I’m incredibly grateful to Greg’s parents, Rachel and John Moyer, and his sisters, Abbie and Katie Moyer, whose advocacy, strength, and dedication were the driving force behind this legislation. I also want to thank my colleagues in both the Senate and House, along with the many stakeholders who supported and advocated for this important initiative.

Sens. Baker, Brown Pass Legislation to Strengthen Penalties for Attempted Murder of Law Enforcement Officers

In the Senate, we also passed Senate Bill 1284, Detective Kyle Gilmartin’s Law, legislation Sen. Lisa Baker and I sponsored following the 2024 shooting of Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin. By the grace of God, Detective Gilmartin survived being shot in the head, but the case revealed a dangerous gap in Pennsylvania law regarding sentencing for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

This legislation closes that loophole by establishing a 20-year mandatory minimum sentence when someone attempts to murder a law enforcement officer and causes serious bodily injury. Any attempt to murder or harm our law enforcement, compromises safety to you, your families, and our community.

The bill now moves to the House for consideration.

Brown’s Midwifery Modernization Bill Signed into Law, Supporting Mothers and Babies

Sen. Brown speaks at a podium surrounded by dozens of onlookers, legislators, and media members, standing in solidarity with Detective Kyle Gilmartin.

I spent this past week in Harrisburg working on important bipartisan issues that matter to residents, families, and communities across our Commonwealth.

My legislation, Senate Bill 507, the Midwifery Modernization Bill, was officially signed into law as Act 14 of 2026. This long-overdue update modernizes Pennsylvania’s midwifery laws, creates a pathway for certified midwife licensure, and expands access to maternal healthcare services across the Commonwealth. This legislation helps strengthen healthcare access while ensuring women and families have more options for safe, quality care.

Mother’s Day and Mammo May

24% of PA women miss a mammogram yearly, 38 PA women diagnosed with breast cancer daily, 90% of women survive at least 5 years with early diagnosis

Mother’s Day is a great time to remind Mom and all the women in your life about the importance of annual mammograms.

While these low-dose x-rays are critical to a lifesaving early diagnosis of breast cancer, one in four Pennsylvania women fail to get a mammogram each year.

Annual mammograms are recommended for women beginning at age 40 or as early as age 25 if a woman is considered at increased risk for breast cancer. Learn more from the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.
