Brown Holds Press Conference Marking Greg Moyer’s Law Enactment

Sen. Brown poses for a photo with a group of people, including Greg Moyer’s family, partners, and advocates for this legislation in the gymnasium at Notre Dame Jr./Sr. High School.

I was honored to join the Moyer family, advocates, medical professionals, and community members at Notre Dame Jr./Sr. High School to announce the enactment of Greg Moyer’s Law, now officially Act 17 of 2026.

This legislation requires automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be present at all PIAA-sanctioned athletic events and practices and strengthens emergency action plans for sudden cardiac arrest situations in schools across Pennsylvania.

Greg Moyer, a Notre Dame student, tragically passed away in 2000 after suffering sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game. By the time emergency responders arrived with an AED nearly 40 minutes later, it was too late to save him. Since then, Greg’s family has worked tirelessly to ensure other families do not experience the same tragedy.

For more than a decade, I had the privilege of working alongside the Moyer family to move this legislation through the General Assembly. Their dedication, advocacy, and commitment to protecting young lives never wavered.

Sudden cardiac arrest remains the leading cause of death among young athletes, and in those critical moments, immediate access to an AED can mean the difference between life and death. While our community will always mourn the loss of Greg, his legacy will now help save lives throughout Pennsylvania for generations to come.

I’m incredibly grateful to Rachel and John Moyer, their daughters Abbie and Katie, the American Heart Association, healthcare professionals, educators, first responders, and the many advocates who helped make this law a reality.

This law is about ensuring schools are prepared, protecting students and families, and turning tragedy into action that will continue saving lives across our Commonwealth.

Improving Stream Maintenance, Reducing Flood Hazards

Stream with low water level and many rocks, surrounded by green trees and vegetation.

Legislation to give counties and municipalities more flexibility in handling flood-related hazards and obstructions was passed by the Senate in March and now awaits action in the House of Representatives.

Currently, entering streams to remove obstructions requires a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection, a process that is lengthy, tedious and inefficient.

Senate Bill 403 would allow local government organizations to apply for an extended permit, allowing maintenance to continue for 10 years or more. Senate Bill 404 would allow counties to obtain emergency maintenance permits in consultation with their county conservation district. Read more about how these bills will help protect against flooding here.

Honoring Memorial Day with American Legion Post 927

A group of Veterans sit in the front of a large crowd of nearly 100 people who have come to join to honor Memorial Day at the Gilbert American Legion Post 927.

American Legion Post 927 held their Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday in Gilbert with an absolutely beautiful service as always. So great to see such an amazing turnout this morning from our community, honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.

Kristine from my staff attended the day’s ceremony and delivered remarks on my behalf!

Pocono Friends of Scouting

I was proud to attend the Pocono Friends of Scouting Dinner at Kalahari Resorts – Poconos earlier this month! It’s always a pleasure to support an organization that continues to make a positive impact on young people throughout our region.

I presented a Citation from the Senate of Pennsylvania to William Donovan of the Minsi Trails Council for all the continued work he and the organization provide. Scouting helps instill leadership, character, service, and responsibility in the next generation, values that strengthen our communities and help prepare young people for future success.

Special thanks to VIP Studios for the great pics!

It was a pleasure to help honor five individuals at the Monroe County Bar Association’s 50 Year Membership Award dinner earlier this month! A truly terrific accomplishment for these men who have dedicated their life’s work.
