Brown Pushes for Statewide Data Center MoratoriumEarlier this week during a Senate Local Government Committee meeting, I offered an amendment to establish a three-year statewide moratorium on data center development to give Pennsylvania the time needed to develop meaningful, enforceable protections for our communities. My amendment sought to replace Senate Bill 1345 with the language of Senate Bill 1359, which would establish this three-year statewide moratorium. While I am disappointed my amendment was not adopted, I voted to support advancing Senate Bill 1345 and House Bill 2496 as they provide municipalities with additional tools to address data center proposals. However, I remain concerned that these measures simply do not go far enough. With more than 50 proposed data center projects across Pennsylvania – including more than a dozen in the 40th Senatorial District – I will continue fighting for stronger statewide protections that put residents first, safeguard our communities, and ensure any growth occurs responsibly. Please take the time to read my full press release on this matter. Brown Works to Finalize State Budget
As budget negotiations continue, we are making steady progress despite the challenges of divided government. Productive discussions are ongoing, compromises continue to be made, and legislative language is being finalized as we work toward a responsible agreement. I remain committed to supporting a commonsense budget that reflects fiscal responsibility, protects taxpayers, and delivers effective, transparent government for the people of Pennsylvania. I am optimistic that we can promptly reach a budget that serves the best interests of our Commonwealth. Welcoming Our Newest American CitizensI had the privilege of attending a Naturalization Ceremony in Monroe County’s Historic Courtroom as 25 individuals representing 16 different countries proudly took the Oath of Citizenship and became citizens of the United States. The ceremony, administered by President Judge Jonathan Mark, returned the naturalization celebration to Monroe County after more than 30 years. I witnessed tears of joy, love and excitement from our newest citizens during this ceremony. Thank you, Judge Mark, for reviving this meaningful tradition and providing such a memorable experience for our newest Americans and their families. The timing of this ceremony made the occasion even more meaningful. As our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence, it is difficult to imagine a more fitting way to celebrate America than by welcoming new citizens who have chosen to embrace the rights, responsibilities, and ideals of our country through the legal process. Wishing them all the American Dream! Working to Save You Money
Pennsylvania families continue to feel the impact of rising costs, which is why I supported legislation to provide meaningful tax relief and make everyday expenses more affordable. The bill would eliminate the gross receipts tax on electricity, saving consumers more than $1.7 billion in the first year. It also creates a two-week sales tax holiday in August for back-to-school items like backpacks, notebooks, and school supplies. The legislation also increases funding for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, helping more families access scholarships for the schools that best meet their children’s needs. This bill is another step toward lowering costs and helping Pennsylvania families keep more of their hard-earned money. It now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration. Call your state representatives and ask them to bring this legislation to a vote. Celebrating Independence Day and America’s 250th BirthdayAs we celebrate Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we are reminded of the courage, vision, and determination of those who established the United States of America. Pennsylvania holds a special place in our nation’s story. From the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia to the adoption of the Bill of Rights, our Commonwealth has played a vital role in preserving the freedoms and liberties we cherish today. I wish you and your family a safe and happy Independence Day as we celebrate 250 years of the American spirit. Supporting Youth Field Hockey in Monroe CountyI recently met with Amanda Parrish, Stroudsburg Head Field Hockey Coach, and Samantha Holbert of the Community Foundation of Monroe County to discuss the launch of a new youth field hockey league right here in our community. Amanda is working diligently to build a strong, affordable field hockey program that will give young athletes the opportunity to learn, grow, and compete. During our meeting, I received an update on the program’s progress and the roadmap for its successful launch. With the support of dedicated volunteers and community partners and myself, this new league has the potential to become a pillar of youth engagement in Monroe County. I look forward to seeing this exciting program grow and the positive impact it will have on local families for years to come. Thank you, Amanda! |
