Requiring Public Schools to Display the POW/MIA Flag

American and POW/MIA flags

The Senate Education Committee passed Senate Bill 835, legislation that I am a proud co-sponsor of, which would require all Pennsylvania public schools already displaying the American flag to also display the POW/MIA flag.

The POW/MIA flag is a powerful symbol recognizing and honoring the courageous men and women of the Armed Forces who remain prisoners of war or missing in action. By displaying this flag, schools also demonstrate their commitment to supporting military families and educating students about the importance of service. Read more about Senate Bill 835.

Qualifying veterans can apply through their County Director of Veterans Affairs to receive $150 per month through Pennsylvania’s Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension program.

Applicants must have been a Pennsylvania resident upon entering the military; have received Honorable or Under Honorable Conditions discharge; have a service-connected injury or incurred a disease resulting in the loss or loss of use of two or more extremities; and have at least a 40% or higher disability rating compensation rating in each limb as determined and certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Find your County Director of Veterans Affairs here.

Improving Veteran Access to Homeownership

All veterans, service members and surviving spouses applying for a VA-backed home loan can now obtain their active Certificate of Eligibility (COE) in real-time through the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app. A COE verifies eligibility for the VA Home Loan Program to lenders.

Thank You All for Another Successful Town Hall

Sen. Brown sits at her desk in her office following the May 20th Tele Town Hall, speaking directly with 40th Senate District Residents.

Thank you to the 10,000+ constituents who tuned in to my telephone townhall! It was great hearing directly from so many of you and discussing the issues that matter most to our communities. One of the biggest topics raised throughout the call was data centers. As many of you know, I support a 3-year moratorium and continue working on my “Residents First” legislative package to ensure our communities, infrastructure, environment, and resources are protected as this industry develops.

I truly appreciate everyone’s professionalism and engagement on these issues. You can sign up for future opportunities at SenatorBrown40.com/access-live.

As always, my office can be reached at 570-620-4326 if you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts on state-related issues.

WWII Veteran Michael Messina’s 100th Birthday

Sen. Brown stands with Charles Taibi from Congressman Bresnahan’s Office, Rep. Jeff Olsommer as they honor WWII Veteran Michael Messina with a Senate Citation.

A very special 100th birthday celebration in Honesdale to World War II veteran Michael Messina! What amazing service to our country from Michael and all three of his siblings too. Looking and feeling fabulous – you would think he’s 70! Truly amazing.

Thank you for your service, Mr. Messina – Blessings!
