Brown Hosting Press Event with Smart Heart Sports Coalition and Advocates to Urge Adoption of Lifesaving Measures

HARRISBURG – Sen. Rosemary Brown (R-40) is hosting a press event on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. in the main rotunda of the Capitol, located at 501 N. Third Street in Harrisburg, to urge the Pennsylvania General Assembly to pass her lifesaving legislation.

The legislation – Senate Bill 375 – would require a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) detailed emergency plan and an AED located within each school building, at all school sporting events and activities, and have adequate personnel trained for the device.

Brown will be joined by advocates, stakeholders and members of the Smart Heart Sports Coalition.

The speakers will include:

  • Brad Cary, American Heart Association,
  • Dr. Victoria Vetter, M.D., FAHA, FACC, FAAP, Medical Director of Youth Heart Watch at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,
  • Rachel Moyer, Greg Moyer Defibrillator Fund,
  • Kenneth Koberlein, grandfather of SCA survivor and former superintendent of East Stroudsburg Area School District,
  • Annie FitzPatrick, SCA survivor, 
  • Gregory “Bo” Kimble, former NBA player,
  • Nicky Cattano, Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society,
  • Dr. Neerav G. Sheth, MD MBA RPVI FACC FSCAI FSCCT FASNC, Pennsylvania Chapter, American College of Cardiology.

Following the press event, Youth Heart Watch at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will hold an AED use demonstration and hands-only CPR demonstration in a simulation of a sudden cardiac arrest. It will be led by Youth Heart Watch coordinators, Lindsey Flanagan, MPH, and Abenezer Lemma.
