Brown Advocates for Child Care in State Budget to Support Working Families

HONESDALE – Sen. Rosemary M. Brown (R-40) joined the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women, parents, educators and local leaders today at Tiny Steps Child Care Center to highlight the need for continued investments in Pennsylvania’s child care system.

“Access to affordable, high-quality child care is not a partisan issue; it’s a workforce issue, an economic issue and a family issue,” said Brown, who also serves on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women. “We must continue supporting solutions that help parents stay in the workforce while ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

Brown emphasized recent bipartisan legislative efforts aimed at easing the burden on working families, including the expansion of tax credits to make care more affordable, and incentives for businesses to support child care options for employees. She also stressed the importance of supporting child care providers through workforce development investments.

“A strong early childhood workforce means stronger outcomes for our kids and a stronger economy for Pennsylvania,” Brown said. “If we want families to succeed, we must ensure providers can recruit and retain qualified educators, and that parents have reliable options they can afford. I would like to thank Tiny Steps Child Care Center for hosting today’s discussion, and I remain committed to delivering results for Pennsylvania’s children and working families.”

As budget negotiations for the 2025–26 fiscal year unfold, Brown remains committed to key early childhood programs like Child Care Works and Pre-K Counts, which help expand access and alleviate staffing shortages in communities across the commonwealth.
