Protecting You Against Data Center Development

Sen. Rosemary Brown stands to the side, listening to constituents speak regarding data center development. Community members line the rotunda steps with signs, posters, and more as Senator Brown looks on.

This week, I joined many of you from across northeastern Pennsylvania at our State Capitol to rally for stronger statewide protections related to large-scale data center development, including a three-year statewide moratorium, which I proudly have co-sponsored. Thank you to my colleague across the aisle, Sen. Katie Muth, for being the prime sponsor of Senate Bill 1359.

Additonally, I am continuing to bring attention to the shortfalls of Governor Shapiro’s fast-tracking of data center development proposal GRID. Taxpayers should not be subsidizing these massive projects and should not receive special tax incentives, nor should the regulations be optional.

This past week, I voted to repeal the sales tax exemption for data centers. This means any data center will pay taxes on their computer service equipment. As one of the Senate’s leading voices of protection on the data center issue, I will continue fighting for policies that put residents first, strengthen local protections, and ensure Pennsylvania gets this right before any additional large-scale projects move forward.

Brown Joins Sanofi in Supporting Investment in Monroe County

Sen. Rosemary Brown poses with interns Jessica and Caroline in her Harrisburg office, along with Kathryn from Sanofi.

This week in Harrisburg I met with Sanofi, along with my two legislative interns Jessica and Caroline, discussing their overall business and policies that may affect them.

Today, I am pleased to announce that Sanofi Swiftwater has been awarded funding that I have supported through Pennsylvania’s RISE PA Grant Program from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, an investment that will support improvements to egg waste processing used in the manufacture of seasonal influenza vaccines.

I was proud to support Sanofi’s grant application because this project represents an investment in both our local economy and our environment. The improvements will help reduce industrial emissions, enhance equipment reliability, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the Swiftwater facility.

Sanofi has been part of the Pocono Mountains for more than a century and remains the company’s largest vaccine manufacturing facility in the United States. It is a cornerstone of our regional economy, providing high-quality jobs while playing a vital role in protecting public health through vaccine production.

Investments like this help ensure the Swiftwater campus remains competitive for years to come while reinforcing its commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on our community and will continue supporting initiatives that strengthen local employers, protect jobs, and encourage responsible economic growth throughout the 40th Senatorial District.

Supporting Our Veterans at Camp Freedom

Sen. Rosemary Brown poses with two men in suits, one featuring vibrant red, white and blue with the stars and stripes. They are posing in front of a crowd at the Camp Freedom Annual Banquet/Fundraiser

It was great to once again attend the 7th Annual Camp Freedom Banquet and Fundraiser at Hotel Anthracite in Carbondale last weekend.

Camp Freedom works to support veterans, first responders and their families by healing our heroes with outdoor adventures and so much more.

What an amazing fundraiser by Matt Guedes, Executive Director, and his team along with all the sponsors and donators create each year. Kudos to all involved!

PEER Graduation at Wayne Woodlands

A group of PEER graduates pose with their certificates of completion for their PEER program, with Kristine from Sen. Rosemary Brown's staff featured in the background of Wayne Woodlands Manor.

Congratulations to all of the PEER graduates from Wayne Woodlands Skilled Nursing in Waymart! Kristine from my staff attended their ceremony yesterday and presented certificates from the Senate of Pennsylvania for their great achievements.

A PEER is a Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Resident. These PEER volunteers completed five weeks of training with Pennsylvania State Ombudsman Kim Erickson to become an advocate for their fellow residents’ rights and concerns. Cheers to the PEERs for supporting dignity and respect in their long-term living community!
